I Didn’t Vote Today
November 9, 2006
I sat a desk and typed things into a computer
They call it working
I call it paying the bills so
I can work some more
I didn’t vote today
because
I don’t really know what the issues are
I only know what the commercials say they are
because
things I care about arent’ the kind of things we vote on
like
shortening the workday
colors that make you creative
clearly marked signage for fun stuff
lengthening vacations
getting rid of idiots
free flowers on every corner on holidays
how to make our cities more like Paris and London and Rome and New York
how to build the roads so they are more fun to drive
places that ought to have ziplines
stuff that ought to have velcro or magnets
places where you can walk barefoot
places that are ugly that should be pretty
because
nobody I know talkes about the bills we are supposed to care about and vote on
nobody seems to know much more than I do
and
politics is a bunch of people who are not at all like me
so its not like we have anything to talk about
I didn’t vote today so if tomorrow is different than today I had nothing to do with it.
I am Going Outside To Play Again
November 8, 2006
the air is clear and crisp and the sun is shining
you can see for miles and miles and
the leaves are turning and too soon now
…it only takes a week or two…
the colors will fade to brown and then
it will be too cold and the wind will blow
and the sky will turn grey and then I will be skiing
So I Am Going, the mountains are calling
So I Am Driving To Them As Fast As I Can
to a place where I can breath in the richness of this life
and savor these few sparkling moments
Before They Disappear
So come one, come all, come with me, come out to play
Put on your shoes and load up a sack full of stuff
Or Don’t Come Out to Play.
I Am Going.
Anyway.
